A 2015 youth mental health study undertaken by CSIRO and VicHealth identified changes in employment trends and opportunities would have an impact on youth mental health and resilience. The impact will be due to:
- Rising skills and education levels due to computing power, device connectivity and artificial intelligence creating a more competitive job market
- Digital technology and globalisation breakdown the traditional employment barriers and changing the way businesses and individuals think and operate.
- A more diverse consumer market makes the identification of what is mainstream increasingly difficult.
Kinglake Ranges youth have a low educational attainment level within the Murrindindi Shire. The low attainment level combined with population growth, changes in technology, and the reduction in traditional employment opportunities due to artificial intelligence is consistent with the CSIRO study and is impacting Kinglake Ranges youth mental health and wellbeing.
The Kinglake Ranges Business Expo provides an opportunity for local businesses and to meet and engage with the Kinglake Ranges community to promote and create business, product, and service opportunities. As part of the Business Expo, time is to be made available for young people to explore with business owners and operators’ career information and vocational opportunities assisting young people with understanding career paths and employment opportunities.
Ellimatta Youth is in the process of planning the Kinglake Ranges Business Expo and needs an indication of local Business interest in participating in the Business Expo.
